Configure Map Preferences

The Map tab contains preferences related to the map.

  1. From the General tab or home page, click Preferences.
  2. Click the Map tab.
  3. In the Spatial Reference field, enter the well known ID (WKID) for the map service. This preference is used for printing maps on work orders, inspections, and service requests. Open ArcGIS Services Directory to find the WKID. The WKID does not need to match any service being used in Cityworks, see 10604: WKID/WKT Spatial Reference and Cityworks for more information.

IMPORTANT: Once the WKID is set, do not change it. Changing it will throw off your graphics layers.

  1. In the XY Precision field, enter a number, between 2 and 8, to determine the precision of how the data is stored and displayed for X and Y coordinates. For example, if you enter 8 here, all 8 digits will be displayed in Cityworks, and stored in the database. If you enter 2 here, only 2 digits will display in Cityworks and only 2 digits will be stored in the database; the other 6 digits will be truncated and lost from the X and Y coordinates. The default is 3.
  2. In the Map Feature Name field, enter the name of the polygon feature class to use to spatially derive map names or grid locations.
  3. In the Map Field Name field, enter the field name for the map pages.
  4. In the Tile No. Feature Name field, enter the name of the layer where the tile information is stored.
  5. In the Tile No. Field Name field, enter the name of the corresponding field inside the Tile No. Layer.
  6. In the Shop Feature Name field, enter the name of the layer where the Shop information is stored.
  7. In the Shop Field Name field, enter the name of the Shop field from the Shop layer.
  8. In the District Feature Name field, enter the name of the layer containing the District information.
  9. In the District Field Name field, enter the name of the District field from the District layer.
  10. In the Default District field, select the default district to be used if one is not already determined using the above values.
  11. In the Maximum Number of Records Returned through eURL field, enter the number of work activity records that will be returned in EURL-related searches.
  12. Select Disable Map Image Generation to disable map image generation when work activities are changed or X and Y values are updated.
  13. Enter a number in the Print Image Map Scale for the scale ratio used when creating a map image to be printed with a service request, work order, or inspection. The scale ratio is 1:5,250, where one foot is equal to one mile.
  1. In the Map Image Buffer Distance field, enter the number of units from a center point on each axis (X and Y). This determines how much of the map is included in the image when the map is printed. The default for both is 2500.

NOTE: The X and Y buffer values define the size of the image bounding box by subtracting and adding the buffer distances, in map units, to the X and Y coordinates on the service request, work order, or inspection.

  1. Select the Map Image Output Pixel Size, either Small (240 X 320 pixels), Medium (480 X 640 pixels), or Large (720 X 960 pixels). The default is Medium.
  2. Add District Values. See Add District Values for more information.
  1. Select the Default District to be used if one is not already determined using the above values.
  2. Add Shop Values. See Add Shop Values for more information.

NOTE: Designer automatically saves the changes you make. A notification will appear in the top-right corner of the window that says Data Saved when you make changes to the page.
