Profiles

Profiles are where your customization for the plugin are stored. By selecting a Profile, you can set up different customizations for a specific group of users who have access to that profile. See Define a Profile in Admin in the Admin 3.5 Guide for more information on enabling users to use a profile.

PREREQUISITES:

  • The first time you install Style, you need to add any apps or pages you need or want to access. For example, use the Route menu option to add a menu item that navigates to the Theme Editor, Profile Editor, and other pages. See Add Menu Items and Edit Item Fields for more information.

NOTE: If you are familiar with customizing Office and Tablet using XML, profiles are similar to the custom folders you create to house the customization files and where you define a specific domain, group, or user to use them.

  • Built-in profiles (i.e., default) can be viewed, but cannot be edited. This is to preserve the built-in profiles in case you need to revert a custom layout back to its original settings.
  • For plugins that support translation, strings do not load for a built-in profile. For plugins that do not currently support translation, the Layout Strings panel loads the strings based on the default language file, such as English. Whether the plugin supports translation or not, stringsStrings are read-only fields. If you attempt to click Save Profile, you will receive an error that says, "Error cannot save built-in profile. Create a new profile."
  • The Description field describes the profile's use. A description can be added for custom profiles. It is a read-only field for built-in profiles (e.g., default or developer). See Add a Profile Description for more information.
  • Custom profiles allow you to edit the strings.
  • For plugins that support translation, the Layout Strings panel loads the selected language and updates strings in the panel for the profile. Modifications made directly to any strings in the Layout Strings panel override any other changes, such as selecting a different language from the Language drop-down list on the panel after you have modified a string.
