Observation Tab Fields
NOTE: Some fields have visible character max limits. The first number is the current count of how many characters have been used. The second number is the max characters allowed in the field.

The following fields display in the Observation Details on the Observations tab:
- Observation: Enter the observation or question.
- Description: This is for use with Trimble Unity Mobile for Cityworks, please see Configure Valve Exercising Observations in the Trimble Unity Mobile for Cityworks Guide for more information.
- Answer Type: Select either Single Answer, Multiple Answers, or Assets as Answers. All answer formats can be used with Single Answer. Only the This Text answer format can be used with Multiple Answers. Only the Free-form Response answer format can be used with Assets as Answers, which allows users to select assets on the map and use them as the answer.
- Calc. Condition Score: Select Calc. Condition Score to include the observation in the condition score calculation for the asset.
- Weight: Enter a number for the weight. A Weight can only be assigned if the Answer Type is Single Answer.
- Required: Select the Required check box to make this observation required to be populated before an inspection can be closed.
- All Answers Visible: Select the check box to have all observation answers displayed at once on an inspection, or click to clear the check box to have all the answers display in a drop-down list.
- Add Condition: This is for use with Trimble Unity Mobile for Cityworks, please see the Configure Inspection Templates in Cityworks in the Trimble Unity Mobile for Cityworks Guide for more information.

The following fields display in the Answer Details on the Observations tab:
- Format: Select the format for the answer. If a field is dimmed, that means it is not available for the answer type. Note that only one type of Answer Format can be used per question.
- This Text: Allows you to specify an answer. Enter the Answer in the field below.
TIP: It may be helpful to add Other as a response when using This Text in case the answer needed hasn't been listed.
- Yes: Select if the answer to the observation could be Yes.
- No: Select if the answer to the observation could be No.
- Unknown: Select if the answer to the observation could be Unknown.
- Date: Select if the answer to the observation is a date.
- Free-form Response: Select to allow the employee completing the inspection to enter a free-form response. This option is also used if Assets as Answers is selected for the Answer Type.
- Check Box (default unchecked): Select if the answer to the observation is a check box selected by default.
- Check Box (default unchecked): Select if the answer to the observation is a check box that is not selected by default.
- Numeric: Select if the answer to the observation is a number.
NOTE: Numeric observation answers are not used in the calculation of condition scores.
- Calculated: Select if the answer to the observation is based on the calculations of one or more numeric answers. You won't be able to create a calculation until at least two numeric answers are created.
NOTE: Calculated answers can only be used with linear inspections.
- Minimum: Enter the minimum number you can enter on a numeric observation answer. Note that this only appears for Numeric answer types.
- Maximum: Enter the maximum number you can enter on a numeric observation answer. Note that this only appears for Numeric answer types.
- Answer: Enter the answer for the observation. Note that this field is unavailable unless the Answer Format is This Text.
- Default Answer: Select to set this answer as the default for the observation. The answer must be a single answer type, like This Text or Free-form Response, in order to set a default value.
NOTE: Default answers can only be set for linear inspections.
- Next Observation: If you're using Branch for the QA Model, select the Next Observation for the question to follow for the given answer.
- Score: Enter the score used to calculate the condition score.
NOTE: Condition scores can only be calculated for linear inspections.
- Calculation: Create a calculation for the answer by clicking Edit Calculation. This only appears if the answer type is Calculation.
- Instructions: If desired, enter instructions for the employee completing this inspection.
- Explanation: If desired, enter an explanation for the answer.

The following fields display when you click Edit Calculation in the answer details section:
- Three dots icon (...): Click to insert an expression. An expression is a group of numbers, variables, and operators, such as (2 + 5).
- Insert Type: Select the values you'd like to add to the expression.
- Insert Expression: Click to insert an additional expression, to make the calculation more complex.
- Insert Number: Click to insert a number into the calculation.
- Insert Answer Value: Click to insert a numeric observation answer into the expression that is populated once that observation is completed on the inspection.
- Collapse Expression: Click to remove the entire expression.
- Select Operation: Select add (+), subtract (-), multiply (*), divide (/), or exponent (^), to build the calculation. Select Remove to remove the entire expression.
