Add a Notification Type

This section will discuss how to add a new notification field.

PREREQUISITES:

  • The Notification Field security function and its associated sub-functions must be selected for the security role you belong to. See Security Roles for more information.
  • You must have notification fields set up for the information you want to pull from the database. See Notification Fields for more information.

  • This requires Cityworks 23.3 and newer.

IMPORTANT:

  • Starting with Admin 3.0, ActiveReports is the new reporting solution. See the ActiveReports FAQ article on MyCityworks for more information.
  • Starting with Admin 3.0, you can no longer add Crystal Report notification types. However, if you had previously configured Crystal Report notification types, these will be visible in Admin and can be used in Office Companion.
  1. From the home page, click PLL and click Notification Types.
  2. On the Notification Types panel, click Add record.

  1. On the Add Notification Type panel, enter a name in the Code field and a brief description in the Notification Description field.
  2. Select , Email, In-App, or SMS using the Category drop-down list. Starting with Admin 3.3, the In-App notification type replaces the Rich Text option.

For in-app notifications to work, the Turn on in-app notifications switch must be activated on the Admin Preferences page. See Configure PLL Preferences for more information.

Adding a new In-App notification type populates the Notification Types (In-App) drop-down list on the Add Notification Setup panel on the Notification Setup page. See Add a Notification Setup for more information.

See Notifications in the Respond 5.4 Guide for more information on what the in-app notifications look like in Respond.

If the Email category is selected, you must enter a subject line using the Email Subject Line field.

  1. Enter the desired text of the message in the field below the Insert Value drop-down list.
  2. Use the Insert Value drop-down list to insert any desired placeholders within the message.

The Insert Value placeholders are dynamically populated with case-relevant data when a message is sent.

  1. Click Add.
